This is why Bellinger is hitting so many more mishits despite contact rates in line with his career norms, and his bat angle not changing at all. The inconsistent attack angles because his weight transfer isn't consistent have led to him frequently swinging underneath pitches in recent years. This is why the wOBAcons are down so much, more than anything else that might have changed. He's likely viewed as a placeholder for prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong -- the player they got from the New York Mets for Baez in 2021.

If he can’t hit in the warm weather of LA, I don’t see him turning his batting around in the Windy City, especially in the cold months of April and May. On December 23, Bellinger signed a $17 million contract with the Dodgers, avoiding salary arbitration. In 2022, Bellinger had the lowest on base percentage of all qualified hitters in the majors at .265, he also had a .210 batting average with 19 home runs and 68 RBIs and struck out 150 times in 504 at bats.

Cubs To Sign Cody Bellinger
For his performance, Bellinger was named the California League Championship Series MVP. He batted .264 for the Quakes, recording 30 home runs, 103 RBIs, and 97 runs in 478 at bats. In the Wild Card Game against the St. Louis Cardinals, he reached base three times and stole twice. In Game 2 of the NLDS match against division rivals the San Francisco Giants, Bellinger's two-RBI double provided the go-ahead runs for an ultimate 9–2 rout of San Francisco. In Game 3 of the NLCS, the Dodgers were down 5–2 against the Atlanta Braves when Bellinger hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning. After Bellinger tied the game and cleared the bases, a single and stolen base from Chris Taylor, followed by an RBI double from Mookie Betts, helped the Dodgers win the game 6–5. The home run pitch from Luke Jackson, a 96 mph (154 km/h) fastball, crossed the plate while 4.12 feet (1.26 m) above the ground, making it very difficult to hit.
Bellinger's recovery from the arthroscopic glenoid labrum surgery progressed ahead of schedule, and he was able to join the Dodgers for spring training in 2021. He suffered another serious injury on April 6 after colliding with Oakland Athletics pitcher Reymin Guduan. Bellinger was initially placed on the 10-day injured list before medical scans revealed that he had suffered a hairline fracture in his left fibula.

Congrats to Trey, the owner of Smitty’s Slugger’s in winning the 2018 Die Hard Fantasy League Championship last year.

He has 15 home runs this year and watching him compete against Harper – who is only one year younger than Bryant and also grew in Las Vegas, Nev. – would make the derby even more entertaining. Nothing is for certain, but I would bet on seeing the Yankees rookie among the eight-man field July 10. Judge also elaborated that he wouldn’t be concerned with the Derby affecting his swing. Fresh off his Arson Judge mishap, Jon Heyman reported that Bellinger will go to the Chicago Cubs. ESPN's Jeff Passan said the 2019 NL MVP signed a one-year, $17.5 million deal. Cody Bellinger will hope to revive his career on a new NL team.
If they do land at least one of those three players, the 2023 Cubs are shaping up to be competitive again. And if Bellinger can keep trending upward, they could be the surprise team to keep on eye on. The Cubs might not be on the seller’s track, however. They also signed Jameson Taillon late Tuesday night, and multiple reports still have them connected to all three of Carlos Correa, Xander Boegarts, and Dansby Swanson.

The annual Ricketts response to stuffing their pockets with cash, and doing nothing in the off-season. If the option is declined, Bellinger becomes a free agent . So the Cubs could put a QO on Bellinger after declining his option. The real question is whether or not Bellinger can play well enough in 2023 to even warrant issuing a QO.
What makes Bellinger’s rookie season even more remarkable is that he wasn’t called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City until Apr. 25, spending the first 20 games of the season in the minors. His 39 home runs in his first 124 career games rank second in major league history to McGwire, who hit 42. King Kahn was drafted by the Yankees in 2010, but began his major league career with the Colorado Rockies in 2014.

He also received an invitation to that year's Home Run Derby, but turned it down in order to have a day off from baseball before the All-Star game. Belli has value in the field and on the basepaths but he has to reinvent his swing. Otherwise he’s a 1-2 WAR player at best and his next contract might be a minor league one. Despite those down years, Bellinger’s salary kept climbing for a few reasons. He reached arbitration for the first time going into 2020, on the heels of his MVP campaign, as a Super Two player.
